Travel Tips

  • Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Fiji is during the dry season, from May to October.
This period offers cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, snorkeling, and exploring the islands.
November to April is the wet season, which sees higher temperatures and occasional tropical storms, but it’s also a great time for diving as the water visibility is excellent.

  • Getting Around

    Fiji offers several transportation options:

Taxis: Widely available in towns and resorts, but make sure to agree on a fare before the ride.

Car Rentals: Ideal for exploring the larger islands like Viti Levu and Vanua Levu at your own pace.

Public Buses: A budget-friendly option, popular with locals and travelers for short distances.

Ferries and Water Taxis: Essential for reaching the smaller islands; schedules may vary, so plan ahead.

Domestic Flights: Quick and efficient for traveling between major islands like Nadi and Yasawa.

  • Safety Tips

Always drink bottled or boiled water to avoid waterborne illnesses.

Reef-safe sunscreen is highly recommended to protect the coral reefs.

Be cautious of strong currents when swimming or snorkeling, and always follow local advice.

Respect village customs, such as removing your hat and sunglasses when entering a village or participating in a ceremony.

Secure your belongings, especially in crowded areas or on public transport.

  • Helpful Notes

Currency: Fijian Dollar (FJD). Credit cards are widely accepted at resorts and larger establishments, but carry cash for small shops and local markets.

Language: English, Fijian, and Hindi are commonly spoken.

Time Zone: Fiji operates on Fiji Standard Time (GMT+12).

Tipping: Not customary in Fiji, but small gratuities for exceptional service are appreciated.

Health Precautions: No mandatory vaccines, but it’s a good idea to consult a travel doctor for advice on mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue fever.

    Plug Type: I
    Voltage: 240V
    Frequency: 50Hz
