Travel Tips
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Curaçao is from December to April during the dry season. This period offers warm, sunny days with minimal rainfall, making it perfect for beach activities and outdoor exploration.
Curaçao is located outside the hurricane belt, so it remains a safe and pleasant destination year-round.
However, visiting during the off-peak season (May to November) can also be rewarding, with fewer tourists and lower prices, though you may experience occasional rain showers.Getting Around
Curaçao has a variety of transportation options to help you explore the island:
Car Rentals: Renting a car is the most convenient way to get around Curaçao, especially if you plan to visit remote beaches or explore the island at your own pace. Rental agencies are available at the airport and throughout Willemstad.
Public Transit: Public buses, known as "konvooi," operate on main routes between Willemstad and other parts of the island. While affordable, buses can be infrequent, especially in rural areas.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing: Taxis are available throughout the island, but they can be expensive. Curaçao does not have ride-sharing services like Uber, so it's best to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.
Scooter Rentals: For a fun and flexible way to explore Willemstad and nearby areas, consider renting a scooter. It's a great option for navigating the city's narrow streets and discovering hidden gems.
Safety Tips
Stay Hydrated: Curaçao's tropical climate can be quite hot, so it's important to drink plenty of water, especially when spending time outdoors.
Sun Protection: The sun is strong in Curaçao, so wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from UV rays. Reapply sunscreen regularly, especially after swimming.
Secure Your Belongings: Like any popular tourist destination, it's important to keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas like markets and beaches. Use a hotel safe to store valuables.
Swimming Safety: While Curaçao’s beaches are beautiful, some have strong currents. Always swim in designated areas and be aware of the local conditions. Pay attention to warning flags and signs at the beach.
Travel Insurance: Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, including COVID-19-related expenses.Helpful Notes
Currency: The official currency of Curaçao is the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG), also known as the florin. U.S. dollars are widely accepted, and most ATMs dispense both ANG and USD. Credit cards are accepted at most establishments, but it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller vendors.
Language: Papiamentu, Dutch, and English are the most commonly spoken languages in Curaçao. English is widely understood, especially in tourist areas.
Health Precautions: Ensure you have up-to-date vaccinations, including yellow fever if traveling from a country where it is a risk. It's also advisable to pack insect repellent to protect against mosquito bites.
Emergency Numbers: The general emergency number in Curaçao is 911 for police, fire, and ambulance services.
Plug Type: Type A (two-pin) and Type B (three-pin, grounded)
Voltage: 110-130V
Frequency: 50Hz
